First-Time Freshman

Aeronautics majors fly their first semester. Equestrian Studies majors ride their first week. Theatre majors star in professional productions. Physical Education and Sports Medicine majors intern with NFL teams. Biology majors work alongside faculty on cutting-edge research. Student-athletes start on varsity teams. Nursing students train in high tech simulation labs.

Thanks to a strong background in liberal arts and access to real-world experiences, Averett students develop skills to succeed in any career. Many are accepted into graduate programs at the nation’s leading institutions, including Boston University, Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, VCOM and University of Chicago.

Averett’s 14:1 student-teacher ratio means you’ll have personal attention from faculty members as you discover, develop and live your dreams.

As we continue to assess the impacts caused by the coronavirus, we are encouraged to think differently and navigate in new ways. At Averett, we are excited that you are interested, and we continue to look forward to helping you through the college application process. Due to the disruption of many school systems being closed, and the uncertainty of when they will reopen, we wanted to share how Averett is working to accommodate your needs:

  • Transcript change. Averett will accept unofficial transcripts. It may be challenging to obtain official transcripts from your high school so please send us any documentation that you have. You can send them to us directly by email. If you enroll at Averett next fall we will eventually need an official copy of your transcripts prior to enrolling.
  • Test optional. If you are unable to take the March or April SAT/ACT, we want to make sure you are aware of Averett's test optional policy. Students with a 3.0 or higher GPA can easily be admitted without test scores by submitting a graded writing sample.
  • Test scores. If you are unable to get an official copy of your SAT or ACT scores sent to us, we will also be accepting unofficial copies of these scores. You can send us screenshots from your College Board account or scanned copies.
  • Visit us virtually! Due to concerns regarding travel, Averett is offering unique opportunities for you to explore our University virtually. All tours scheduled through June 1, 2020, will be 100% interactive and 100% virtual! We are delighted to provide a personal touch to your experience through a campus tour and a chat via FaceTime, Skype or Zoom. We will walk around campus, meet with your admissions counselor, answer any questions you may have, and if the President's schedule permits, she would love to say hello as well! Also, we are excited to share that we just launched our official virtual tour on our website.
  • Deposit deadline extension. Lastly, Averett is going to extend the deadline to deposit from May 1st to June 1st to allow you more time to get us any materials and most importantly, provide you with time to make a well informed decision.

Additional requirements apply. International students must undergo a credential evaluation to show they have met an equivalent performance standard.
