Originally from Danville, Virginia, Matthew graduated from Averett University in 2008, with a B.S. degree in Global Marketing Management. He enjoys sharing his Averett experience with families throughout southside Virginia. As a transfer student, he can talk to students about why he chose Averett and why it was such a great fit. After graduation, Matthew worked in the golf industry, youth development and marketing, and returned to Averett in 2012. He enjoys playing golf, mountain biking, hiking and spending time with his son, Brooks, and Labrador, Piper.

What was your favorite class at Averett?
My favorite class was Buyer Behavior. That’s where I learned the psychology behind people’s buying power. I found it fascinating.
What do you love most about AU?
As cliché as it sounds, I love the close-knit, small atmosphere at Averett. I grew up with the mentality that college has to be big, but I wanted real relationships and real discussions in the classroom. I got exactly what I wanted at Averett.
What’s your favorite place in Danville?
My favorite place in Danville is Angler’s Park, right off the Riverwalk. It offers some of the best mountain biking in Virginia. It’s also a great place for a quick hike right in the middle of the city.
