What to Expect in Residence Hall Living

What can a new student expect in residence living?

  • All rooms have windows
  • Some halls have central heat and air….some don’t
  • Twin size beds
  • Some halls have carpet, some hardwood, and some tile
  • Each room has two beds, a dresser, two desks, some have book shelves, and closet area,
  • Bathrooms have a showers (some with tub/shower combo) used by multiple people
  • Most rooms have mini-blinds
  • Some halls do not allow portable A/C and/or window units
  • Each student is given one key – fees apply if broken or lost
  • Close knit community
  • Most halls require a roommate
  • At least a monthly hall program (fun activities) for residents
  • University is part of historical district
  • Some rooms are located in 19th century Victorian style buildings and others in halls built in the late 1960’s
  • Some rooms have sinks and extra storage space
  • Integrated study, social, living, and learning community areas
  • Most halls have lounge and communal areas
  • A common lounge area  with full range of kitchen appliances, noise cancelling study rooms, fireplace, and community area
  • Free laundry rooms
  • Jut’s Café – coffee shop feel with snacks and convenience store type items
  • School wide clubs and programs and Greek life
  • Vending machines are located in each building
  • Common game areas
  • 24/7 Security on premises
